"It's been an honour to go back and listen to all of these records, rediscovering some old favourites, uncovering some new favourites, and shining a light on some of this country's finest artists." The two oldest albums came out within months of each other in 1965, with the most recent releases put out during the COVID-19 pandemic. "It's been an amazing experience to go in-depth with many of these records, realising and understanding the blood, sweat, and tears that went into making each and every one," he said. Rolling Stone Australia editor Tylor Jenke said it had been an honour to delve through the list as it came together.

The list is featured in the December edition, with deep dives on the full 200 recordings. IN THE NEWS: The top five were AC/DC's Back in Black, INXS' Kick, John Farnham's Whispering Jack, Cold Chisel's East and Midnight Oil's Diesel and Dust. Machine Gun Fellatio, whose founded members include Newcastle's Glenn Dormand (aka Chit Chat von Loopin Stab) also scored a spot on the list with album Paging Mr Strike. Diorama narrowly missed out on a place in the top 20, coming in at 22, while Freakshow finished 46, Neon Ballroom at 66 and Young Modern at 133. Frogstomp finished number six in the list to pip Crowded House, Kylie Minogue and The Avalanches. The Newcastle band racked up five albums in the list, including one in the top ten. SILVERCHAIR have taken out a substantial chunk of Rolling Stone's rankings for the best Australian albums of all time.
